Alexander Melamid: Holy Hip Hop!

alexmelamid.jpg

Check out these candid portraits of hip hop’s most famous; they are life-size oil on canvas by Alexander Melamid, a Russian-born American artist best known for his satirical portrayal of Soviet Russia by infusing Socialist-Realist propaganda and traditional Russian iconography. My personal favorite: Snoop Dogg surfing the web in his comfy chair. Compelling.

Tarantino Remix!

Check out this Tarantino Mixtape made by Eclectic Method, a London-based DJ/VJ collective specializing in audio-visual remixes. Jules (Samuel L Jackson) delivering his biblical monologue / death sentence in Pulp Fiction = most epic. You can check out more of Eclectic Method’s videos here.

tiny people in glass cases

If you are the type of person who can get down with snow globes (like me), you’d probably drool all over these dream-like diorama sculptures made by a Brooklyn-based artist known as Thomas Doyle. The guy works with micro-scale 3D landscapes in glass-sealed containers and stages dreamlike scenarios (many of them are pretty twisted too, like this one) with intricate models of tiny village people. Earlier this year, I had a chance to see some of his dioramas at an NYU gallery and the level of intricacy behind these things are more than impressive. You can check out the rest of his diorama series on his website here.
